Aston Villa played their second preseason match in Germany today against 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn. As with the first, audio quality on AVTV was a bit poor, so we were forced to follow the game from twitter. In doing so, it became readily apparent that Andreas Weimann is looking to make his new contract worth it for Aston Villa.
The first half saw Villa concede a goal and have no real answer for Paderborn. Jed Steer, who was in the net and conceded a goal on Wednesday, allowed another to Rick ten Voorde. Other reports had Steer blocking a few shots abley, so perhaps it was just a stray instance. Aside from that, the half was quiet enough to have Mat Kendrick tweet relentlessly about the crowd.
The second half saw Andreas Weimann score one goal and just miss two others. The Austrian's pace was creating problems the entire half for the Paderborn defense. The goal made the match 1-1, which is where it stayed, as Brad Guzan managed his second scoreless 45 minutes in two preseason matches. Luckily, no injuries were reported from the match.
1st half lineup (4-3-3): Steer, Vlaar, Clark, Bacuna, Helenius, Westwood, Delph, Webb, Bowery, Bennett, Carruthers
2nd half lineup (4-3-3): Guzan, Lowton, Baker, El Ahmadi (!), Rodriguez, Sylla, Bowery (Burke - 60'), Weimann, Herd, Gardner
