Eric Lichaj, the United States defender who had a terrible year for Aston Villa, has been acquired by Championship side Nottingham Forest FC. Lichaj came into the 2012-13 season as one of Aston Villa's - and the United States' - more promising players. His play near the end of the 2011-12 campaign had fans excited about the potential for a defender who could adequately play on both sides of the pitch, and showed some ability to get forward.
Unfortunately, Lichaj not only didn't progress from his previous for, he got worse. In his season review of the defense, Aaron wrote that "after working his way through Villa's youth system Lichaj seems to have hit the wall in terms of his development this year."
Hopefully, for Lichaj, the move to Nottingham Forest will equate to more playing time, and a renewed chance at success. It was only a year ago, after all, that there was talk of Lichaj breaking his way into regular play, both on the international and EPL level. Here's wishing Lichaj the best of luck.
