One down: Weimann to ink new three-year deal

The 21-year-old is expected to return from Austrian national team duty on Monday to re-up with Aston Villa for another three years.

After a breakout season which saw Andreas Weimann net 12 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions, the 21-year-old Austrian international striker has been rewarded with a new three-year deal that he is expected to sign on Monday. Weimann had reportedly begun to attract interest from other Premier League clubs after becoming a regular and important member of Paul Lambert's first-choice squad, and the new deal will ease some nervousness about the state of Villa's strike force next season.

Christian Benteke's contract situation remains the elephant in the room, but Weimann committing to Villa for the long term will help to ease concerns that Villa will fail to hold on to any of their young stars. With the signing of Aleksander Tonev completed early this week and rumors continuing to swirl about potential signings, we're clearly into the thick of the silly season; hopefully the good news will continue to come.
