Pictures from Aston Villa's 1-2 loss to Chelsea, including Stiliyan Petrov's wave to the crowd and Frank Lampard's jubilation.

Aston Villa could have desperately used a win against Chelsea on Saturday. Getting three points would have secured safety for the year, and put a wonderful cap on a lovely run of form. But those three points were always going to be a challenge, as Chelsea are an immensely talented club.

Frank Lampard, one of the greatest midfielders of the past decade, was in fine form, scoring his 202nd and 203rd goals for Chelsea, setting a new record for the storied club. Elsewhere on the pitch, Christian Benteke did his thing, and then was an utter moron, earning himself a red card and a seat on the sidelines for the final match of the season.

But perhaps most importantly for Villa fans, we got a chance to recognize Stiliyan Petrov, who announced his retirement from football earlier in the week, after the match.

We've collected some of the best images from the match (warning: some show happy Chelsea players. Sorry everyone, they're still good/iconic photos). All images are thanks to Getty Images photographers Chris Brunskill and Gareth Copley.
