The balls have been drawn and the results are in: Aston Villa will host Sheffield United in the third round of the FA Cup. Yes, that's right, the Villa have got a League One side at Villa Park. Sure to be simple, right? Especially since the Blades are just barely above the relegation zone. Such ties have never gone wrong for Villa before.
Ok, so this is pretty much a flashback to three years ago, when Villa visited Sheffield (then in the Championship) and came away 3-1 winners. The goalscorers? Kyle Walker, Marc Albrighton and Stiliyan Petrov. This is right after Villa lost to Sunderland and slipped down into the bottom three, by the way. In case that makes you feel any better.
The third round is played out over the first weekend of 2014, when everyone sensible is sitting at home nursing their hangovers. Let's hope it doesn't create even more pain and suffering for Villa fans. After all, wasn't the loss at Fulham enough? WASN'T IT?
