Southampton vs. Aston Villa, lineups and open match thread

Aston Villa would love to win today, but let's all hope they can at least avoid the loss.

Mike Hewitt

Welcome to a midweek edition of "Oh god, why do we root for this team when we don't have the money to pay the necessary medical bills from heart palpitations?"! In today's show, we've got Aston Villa facing off against Southampton: the team who surprises you for their position in the table, but then you think about it and realize they ought to be there. If you haven't already, make sure to read Aaron's preview of the match. It's got some great discussion about what Southampton are doing right, and why that's so frustrating for us Villa fans.

We've got the lineups below, and we certainly hope that you'll join us in the comments as we pull out our hair. I'll miss the first half or so, since I'm teaching my students about Karlheinz Stockhausen. It's the only time in my life when listening to 20th-century avant garde music was the less stressful of two options I had on my plate.
