While Aston Villa are suffering from their own share of injuries leading up to this weekend's match against Manchester United, we've got some good news from the Red Devils to bolster our spirits. David Moyes has announced that his club will be without Robin van Persie and Marouane Fellaini when they kick off at Villa Park on Sunday. Van Persie you may remember as United's top goalscorer last season, and the man who has found the net seven times in eleven matches this season. Given that Aston Villa will likely be sending out a makeshift back line again--one that won't include Ron Vlaar--this is astonishingly good news.
Van Persie picked up his injury while he was a second-half sub in United's 1-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. He's been quite good when paired with Wayne Rooney, so I'm not sad to see him gone at all. I'm also not at all sad about the absence of Fellaini, who you may remember for doing this to Villa when he last played them in February:
That's a wonder-goal through three players to bring Everton even. But it got even worse in stoppage time when Fellaini decided he wanted to win the match:
So yeah. Not going to miss Fellaini on the pitch one bit. United may also be without Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, and Chris Smalling, who all missed the club's mid-week Champions League match.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that things are looking good for Aston Villa, but they're certainly looking better!
