The match between the Philadelphia Union and Aston Villa was on at 7:30 ET, making it 12:30 UK time and 1:30AM for us poor sods in Holland. There's a lot I'll do for my Villa, but staying up until 3:30am on a school night for a friendly just isn't one of them. So guys, what happened?
In my first perusal of the AVFC site, I thought we'd lost. But then I took a sip of coffee and things settled into place: A 1-0 victory for the Lions, courtesy of Nathan Delfouneso. The young striker sent in a lovely, curling shot just before the break, and that one goal was all that was necessary in the match.
From reading the match reports, I see some familiar details, like Richard Dunne terrifying everyone when letting a Union player in behind the defence, and Charles N'Zogbia taking advantage of a great opportunity only to stumble around and flub it up. I also see some things that are new, but that I hope become like second nature: Villa dominated possession. Ciaran Clark and Eric Lichaj taking shots on goal. Alan Hutton's name nowhere to be found. Lovely. But now I want to hear from y'all...or at least, those of you that were able to watch the match. How'd Paul Lambert's shiny new Villa actually look? Was football fun again? Tell us!
