In doing his best to secure my endorsement for President Of Everything For Life, Paul Lambert has apparently told Alan Hutton that his services will no longer be required by Aston Villa. Obvious "this is the Mirror we're talking about here so don't get too carried away," this is about the best possible thing I could have heard to ensure I have a spring in my step all weekend. Beyond his on-pitch contributions (or lack thereof) Hutton is a symbol of everything awful about the Alex McLeish regime. There are worse players in the squad, but if I could pick any one player to send on his way Hutton would be the guy.
Assuming this is on the up-and-up, the next step is to find a team dumb or desperate enough to spend actual money in order to acquire him. There's no way Villa will be recouping the £3 million they spent to sign him from Spurs, but at this point anything approaching a fair offer should be accepted with glee. The back line is in desperate need of a makeover, and getting rid of Hutton is as good a place to start as any.
