Aston Villa Players Heading For Olympics As Part of Team Great Britain?

Stuart Pearce watched the Manchester City match. Yet somehow, seven Villans made the list for consideration for Team GB.

Stuart Pearce named seven Aston Villa players to the list of those being considered as part of Team Great Britain. Should they be selected, these Villans will have the joy of representing their...country...(what do you call it?) at the summer Olympics in London.

At first glance, the list of names seems rather odd: Alan Hutton, James Collins, Barry Bannan, Gary Gardner, Nathan Delfouneso, Nathan Baker and Darren Bent. But remember, the GB squad is composed of 15 U-23 players and 3 overage players. Also, Wales and Scotland aren't going to Euro 2012 so their "best" are free for the taking.

But even with those conditions established, this list seems odd. And although this list came out in the Birmingham Mail, I can't manage to find a complete list of those being considered, so I can't let you know if the other names put forth for consideration are just as weird. Where is Marc Albrighton? He's still under 23. And Gabby Agbonlahor? He might be "old", but he's likely one of the better players not going to the Euros.

And if someone could explain how having Alan Hutton on your Olympics squad is not a detriment to success, I'd be interested to hear. Then again, I'd also like to know about some decent British fullbacks. Who do you think should be on this list, guys?
