Reports in the Italian media suggest that Aston Villa have taken a shine to young Frederik Sørensen, currently at Bologna but co-owned by Juventus. The 20-year-old central defender has made nine appearances for Bologna thus far, eight of those as starts.
Like Paul Lambert, Stefano Pioli enjoys tinkering with formations. Since becoming a regular starter in late October, Sørensen has played on the right of a back three, at the center of a back three, as a right center-back in a back four, and as a left center-back in a back four. Versatility! We like it.
The Dane is also just twenty years old, making him an ideal match for Lambert's youth campaign. However, you'd think in January Villa might devote a few pounds to slightly more experienced players, at least after the disasters experienced in the last few matches.
Overall, Sørensen seems like a good buy, one that will come cheaply enough and who fits the Lambert mold. But if you're of the opinion that Villa need a savior, well, you'll have to look elsewhere for the Messiah.
