While I have no idea what this site says (It's all Greek to me!), I am adept enough at looking at pictures to tell you that Jean II Makoun has left Aston Villa for Greek side Olympiacos. The move is presumably the season-long loan with the option of permanence that has been rumored for the past week or so. Makoun will join a team that is slated to play Arsenal, Marseille, and Dortmund in the Champions League group stage. For the Cameroon international, it is undoubtedly a smart career move, as he is likely to see first-team playing time rather than languishing on the bench.
For Aston Villa, I can't help but think this is an incredibly stupid move. The most glaring problem Villa face right now is a lack of creativity and flow from the center of the pitch, and Makoun provides both. We'll have to see what Alex McLeish has in store for the remaining two days of the transfer window, but I can see this move coming back to bite Villa.
Regardless, in his time here, Makoun was a class act, and I wish him all the best of luck in Greece. He's got a good shot at making the later stages of European play, and I hope he impresses. At least we'll always have his music video.
