Aston Villa 0-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers: Why Why Oh God Why Make It Stop

I'm a busy little bee today and don't have time for a full recap; expect that in the next day or two. But I thought it worth mentioning that this afternoon's match between Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers might have been the least entertaining game of football I have ever seen in my entire life. And remember, I watch a lot of football. I regularly watch games between bad teams in MLS and Ligue 1, for example. Those are not the most exciting leagues in the world. And yet, I have never been as bored watching a game as I was today. Maybe it was the glorious weather outside, or my being distracted by all the stuff I have to do this afternoon or my cat being a whiny little monster. I don't know.

But dear god was it bad. Emile Heskey brings nothing playing behind the striker. Chris Herd was okay in defense but had no ideas other than to hit long aerial diagonals towards the keeper. When the most creative play of the game comes from Richard Dunne, well, you know it's bad. (It was a nice little flick though.) There were small stretches of decent stuff in the second half, but even then it never really felt like anyone was going to score.

It was awful. Just awful, from both sides. A draw isn't a terrible result in this game (tough it's not a great one either) but had it been 2-2 and not completely stifled from the opening window it would have been a whole lot more tolerable. This was just the worst. No more of this please, Mr. McLeish. This is what everyone was afraid of when you took over. Don't let it happen again or I'm going to start leading the calls for your head.
