Well, at least it's progressing a bit faster this time around. Assuming the majority of the funds from the sale of are re-invested in the squad, Young moving on just doesn't bother me in the least. He's a good player but he's also overrated and while it's an irrational thing not really related to his value to the team, he quite frankly seems a bit of a prick and my distaste for him grew exponentially as last season progressed. Not a reason for the club to sell certainly, but reason for me to be significantly less bothered.
The key of course is that the money does in fact get re-invested. Personality and over-ratedness aside, Young has been one of Villa's better players the entire time he's been with the club. If the value he brings is lost and not replaced elsewhere Villa could be a significantly worse team next season than last, and that's a acutely terrifying proposition. Luckily the odds of the club pocketing the cash (at least in its entirety) seem low, and in the end I'd imagine this turns out to be a net positive for the club.
Now, if Young and Stewart Downing both go...let's just say that's not a possibility I care to entertain at the moment.
