Brad Friedel Set To Reject Aston Villa Contract Extension To Rejoin Liverpool

Goodbye, Big Brad. If you're really off to Liverpool, Villans everywhere will miss you immensely.
Goodbye, Big Brad. If you're really off to Liverpool, Villans everywhere will miss you immensely.

According to Mat Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail, goalkeeper Brad Friedel is set to reject Aston Villa's one-year contract extension in favor of a two-year deal offered by his former club, Liverpool. Earlier today, I wrote about this rumor, thinking it was rather silly. After all, why would Friedel want to return to Liverpool, where he himself admits he wasn't treated well (although to be fair that was under the current Villa manager, so...) simply to play a few games when Pepe Reina needs a break?

Apparently it's to have the security of a two year contract rather than wonder what will happen when you reach the age of 41 and no one wants you around. Friedel's had a couple financial scares, so perhaps he's thinking about the future. Or maybe he just really wanted to head to Liverpool, to get a taste of Champions League...oh wait, no, Europa League...no, not that either. Maybe he just wanted out of those hideous Nike goalkeeper kits.

Now the Villa are stuck having to find not one but two keepers in the next few months. Not to mention at least two defenders. This should be a blast. Perhaps Villa shouldn't be so quick to jump on the "one year only to players under 30" bandwagon.
