Three Or Four Aston Villa Players In England Squad

Aw, happies
Aw, happies

The England squad has been announced for the Euro qualifying match against Switzerland and, no big surprises anywhere, including in the list of Aston Villa players named: Darren Bent, Ashley Young, Stewart Downing, and Kyle Walker. Is Kyle Walker even a Villan anymore? Does he go back to Tottenham Hotspur immediately after the season is over? Will he even get his first cap for the Three Lions?

Walker and his defensive abilities aside, Downing, Young and Bent all certainly deserve to be named to the squad. Ash and Bent combined beautifully against Wales, despite sometimes struggling to repeat the performances for Villa. Downing, meanwhile, may not be the most sparkly player in existence, but he's certainly solid, which is more than you can say for many of England's wide options.

Of course, simply because the Villans are named doesn't mean they'll start against Switzerland on June 4. Fabio Capello is nothing if not committed to the ideas in his own brain. Just because England are unbeaten in Group G, and are almost a shoo-in for Euro 2012, doesn't mean that it's the time to shake things up a bit.
