Don't Panic: Gérard Houllier Admitted To Hospital, Seems Fine

Gérard Houllier. Not in hospital, but perhaps negatively affected by the number of bubbles swirling around his head.
Gérard Houllier. Not in hospital, but perhaps negatively affected by the number of bubbles swirling around his head.

Always a great way to start off the morning -- the first bit of news you see is that the Aston Villa manager has been admitted into the hospital. That's the kind of thing that makes a girl sit up and say, "Yep, we've got this season under control!" Particularly when you remember that Gérard  Houllier was so stressed out while managing Liverpool that he had to undergo heart surgery in 2001.

Flash forward ten years and Gérard at least seems healthier, although it seems he'll have to stay in the Birmingham hospital for a few days to undergo tests. Gary McAllister will be the one in charge of the Villa on Saturday against Stoke. Which is rather nerve-wracking, but hey, the Potters got out all their scoring for the entire year, demolishing Bolton 5-0 in the FA Cup semi-final. Plus, it's not at the Britannia so less reason to panic.

Which is good for Gérard. Poor man needs rest and relaxation, not nights spent awake wondering if Marc Albrighton will return to the first team or Richard Dunne will be left out of the side due to a grudge held by GMac. Get well soon, Gérard! -- our health (and safety) just might depend on it.
