Mat Kendrick (amongst others) has the news that Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has been suspended for Saturday's match against Sunderland. The suspension comes in the wake of Bannan's arrest for drink-driving on Monday morning. A one-match ban is probably the least of what would have been expected and it would be hard to argue that it isn't completely justifiable.
What's going to be more interesting (to me at least) will be watching what comes next for the 21-year-old Scottish international. It seemed as though Bannan had finally broken through into a regular role with the first team and given the relative lack of creativity in this Villa side he's been a most welcome addition. Putting the morality of the situation aside, Aston Villa is a better team when Bannan is on the pitch. And for now, Bannan has put the club in a situation where they are forced to make themselves worse for at least one game against a team they could actually stand a chance of beating.
