Curtis Davies Leaves Aston Villa For Birmingham City -- Another Double Agent?

Curtis Davies is set to leave Aston Villa for Birmingham City, in a deal believed to be around £3.5 million. No official word yet on whether Sebastian Larsson will come the other way, but really, getting rid of additional wages and receiving £3.5m is good enough without juggling another midfielder.

With his switch from claret and blue, Davies becomes the third former Villan at St. Andrews. But will he be a true turncoat like Craig Gardner, who scored the winner to send Birmingham City to Wembley, or will he be a secret agent like Liam Ridgewell, who has scored two own goals in the Second City Derby? (Ok, the one this season may be questionable, but at least he helped James Collins score the vital equalizer).

It's rather impossible to believe Davies could become a secret agent, as it was really only the club photographer that paid any attention to him over the last two seasons. Davies, as has been pointed out many times, was the fifth choice center back for Aston Villa, stuck behind Collins, Richard Dunne, Carlos Cuellar and Ciaran Clark (Wow, we like C names). Even when Villa used four central players in the back, Davies still couldn't make the cut. It was time for him to move on, even though the wisdom of selling him to Villa's biggest rivals is slightly questionable.

I wish I could say best of luck, Davies. But when you put on the bluenose uniform...
