Buried in a story
about Liverpool's interest in Luis Suarez are references to the Reds seeking to shore up their squad by snagging Stephen Warnock and Ashley Young from Aston Villa. Most of us already knew about the Warnock interest, and at this point, is there anyone begging Warnock to stay? Quite frankly, I'm not sure why Liverpool wants him, except for the hope in the back of their heads that possibly Warnock has a bit of his former self still tucked away inside him. Plus, this is a team that regularly plays Glen Johnson as a defender, so perhaps it's not necessary to look too deeply into their logic.

But Ashley Young? Is the transfer window really so boring that journalists need to keep recycling the same old tired claims? The Villa made it quite clear that they had no need to make a big sale in the January transfer window in order to finance the Darren Bent transfer, and specifically mentioned that Stewart Downing and Ashley Young would remain with the club. Liverpool may have 'interest' in Ash, but they're not likely to gain anything from that interest.

At this point, I'm ready for more interesting rumors. How about Marc Albrighton being pursued by Tottenham Hotspur, who are attempting to complete a collection of every wide player in the Premier League? Chelsea taking James Collins to shore up an ailing back line? Habib Beye being shipped off to Italy because, goodness knows, practically every Serie A club challenging for the title has a weak defense?

Please, for the sake of those covering the transfer window, get creative. Think big. Tell me Alexis Sanchez is a lifelong Villa fan and suddenly wants to take on the role of withdrawn forward for the claret and blue, thus freeing up Ash to head off to Liverpool. Please.
