James Collins Heading Back to Hammers?

+

Up the Irons! It looks like James Collins is about to be sold to West Ham, his former club. We don't know much about the fees yet but this is welcome news in a summer full of welcome news. Time to start wondering about who is going to grab the number six shirt.

Leicester seeks Aston Villa striker for loan

+

Looks like Alex McLeish dreams of having some other club turn Nathan Delfouneso into a man are nearing fruition. Strong rumors that Leicester is going to grab in are swirling. We'll let you know when/if it's official.

Aston Villa: Talk Of Houllier Protest Is Embarrassing

+

Excellent work from Chris Nee at twofootedtackle, letting us all know why it's absolutely silly to start calling for Houllier's head. (although I do take issue with his making us consider the merits of Luke Young when evaluating Martin O'Neill)

Aston Villa FansEye: Stoke's Late Show Was Like a Knife in the Stomach -- UK Football FanHouse

+

My FansEye Rant about the Stoke match yesterday. My brain is not yet capable of forming a reasoned opinion of this match. Instead I am going to go watch the Stewart Downing goal again and again and pretend the match ended then and there.

Rapid Vienna Issue Statement of Apology

+

Nope, not for Guzan, for Andreas Weimann. Good on them. Weimann was injured in Thursday's match against Rapid, and while being stretchered off the pitch, they were spat at and had drinks hurled at them. Classy, Rapid fans. Way to do that to one of your countrymen. Weimann was thrilled about coming to play in Vienna. Then he gets injured, which is bad enough, but to be spat upon while unable to walk? That's just utterly despicable.

Bob Bradley Has Not Quit As Coach Of The USMNT

6

According to Matt Slater of the BBC. Could Bob Bradley become Villa's manager? Of course he could. But think about this logically. Bradley was always set to be re-negotiating his contract. When asked about coaching in Europe, he said he'd love to. He has never said he was approached to coach. Any "news" story linking him to the job has quoted that interview. On the Villa side, Randy Lerner has made it clear that this might take awhile. He wants to evaluate the options. Lerner hasn't had to appoint a Villa manager before. Why would he rush the process now? That goes against what we know about Lerner. Villa fans, we have a perfectly reasonable caretaker manager in Kevin MacDonald. A manager that the players know and seem to trust. We need to throw our support behind him, not spend our days staring at the tabloids (or even ESPN Soccernet, which published this as credible as well).
