Next up, we are looking at Norwich City for players who may be useful should the team be relegated. Losers of six of their last eight (W1D1) and sacking manager Chris Hughton in the process, the Canaries have been in bad form. Norwich have some decent young defenders, but I have decided not to profile them here, rather going with attacking midfielders and forwards, because I don't believe they would be an upgrade at any of the four defensive positions for Aston Villa.
Remember, I will be rating the likelihood on a scale of 1-10, with 10 meaning that Lambert Should be interested, not that he necessarily Is interested.
Nathan Redmond: A former Birmingham City left winger, Nathon Redmond has one goal and three assists in 31 Premier League appearances this season. Still only 20 years old, the speedy right-footed left-sided player wouldn't be too expensive at £2.9m. Norwich may be reluctant to sell however.
Likelihood rating: 8/10: A player who has two goals in nine matches for England's U21 squad would be a great addition to Villa. He would allow the side to play 4-4-2 effectively.
Leroy Fer: Brought in from FC Twente for £4.5m last year, Fer has seen his value increase substantially this season to about £7m. The 24-year old central midfielder has started 27 times this season and is a mainstay in their side when fit.
Likelihood rating: 9/10: This player would be worth the £7m that Norwich could command, even if they go down. A lot of eyes will be on this Dutch midfielder, and hopefully his value doesn't increase too much as he will be in the squad for the Oranje this summer.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel: Another Dutchman brought in last summer, van Wolfswinkel has had a tough first season in the Premier League. Previously at Sporting Lisbon he enjoyed a lot of success, and Norwich paid £8.5m for him last summer. After only scoring one and assisting two goals this season, his value has dropped to £6.2m.
Likelihood rating: 5/10: Still just 25 years old, van Wolfswinkel still has time to rediscover the form that saw him score 14 goals each of the last two seasons in Lisbon. If the price is right, he could provide good cover behind Libor Kozák. A season long loan may suit both clubs better though. He is more of the target-man type that Lambert seems to prefer.
Gary Hooper: The other striker that Norwich brought in last summer, Gary Hooper cost £5.5m. Bought from Celtic, this is a player that has Champions League experience. Playing in the Premier League has proved to be more difficult for Hooper, but he has managed to score six times.
Likelihood rating: 6/10: A different style than van Wolfswinkel, I feel Hooper is a better option. His value hasn't increased by much this year, and at £5.75m would be affordable. A player that moved to the premier league just last year, I don't see him sticking around very long if Norwich don't avoid the drop.
Wes Hoolahan: A player I just had to add to the list because of what happened this winter. Hoolahan is 31 years old, but still could serve a purpose for Villa. Valued at just £1.6m, he would give the team something in an attacking midfielder and someone who could come off the bench and provide a spark.
Likelihood rating: 1/10: Unless upper management changes their mind, Norwich will not sell this player to Villa. They took a very firm stance on it in January, and I doubt it will change.
Are there any other Norwich players you would like to see at Villa? Leave a comment of whom I left out and why you think they would be a good fit.
