What's this now? Aston Villa have thrown their hats in the ring for another striker? And another kid? And another player without proven Premier League experience?
According to the latest piece of juicy transfer rumor gossip, the Villa are hoping to sign Jean Marie Dongou, an 18 year old striker currently playing for Barcelona B. The Cameroonian has played at the U20 level with his country, and made one appearance with the senior Barca side, in the Copa del Rey match against Division B side FC Cartagena. He was also the top scorer in the 2012 NextGen tournament, which is probably how Lambert noticed him in the first place.
Unfortunately, it looks like this would only be a loan move, with Villa hoping to fine-tune Dongou and then send him back to Spain. How, exactly, that might happen is a bit of a mystery, seeing as there are already about ten strikers in the squad, and it's not like there are a lot of cup games to throw him into. But maybe Lambert will have the side playing with four forwards again - at least the issue of dull football would be resolved.
It's just one article, and it's from the Metro. So who knows how this story developed, or how likely it is to be true. But it'd sure be nice to think Villa are in for a Barcelona youngster, wouldn't it?
The most thrilling part of this story is a throw away line added at the bottom of the article: Lambert hopes this will be be the start of a partnership between the two clubs. Perhaps those demanding the Villa show a little ambition would have to quiet down should this happen.
