Aston Villa will unsurprisingly be missing Nathan Baker for Saturday's match against 4th-placed Liverpool. Baker suffered a concussion in Monday's loss to Arsenal, and is still feeling "a bit groggy" according to Paul Lambert. In an interesting turn of luck, though, Villa will be getting a defender back at the same time they lose Baker. Joe Bennett has returned to training after a back injury that has kept him out since October. Given the state of Villa's defense right now, it wouldn't be shocking to see Bennett immediately slot into Baker's spot in the central defense.
Chris Herd will also be absent from the Villa squad, as he's dealing with a hamstring problem that kept him out of the Arsenal match as well. It seemed as if Herd would be ready for this weekend's match, as he was invloved in light training last week, but things have apparently not progressed enough for Lambert to think the midfielder ready to go.
Aside from those injuries, Villa will have a largely-healthy squad for what will likely be a very tough match. It remains to be seen if new loanee Grant Holt will make his Aston Villa debut, but given the injury situation, there isn't a lot of room for him to fit in quite yet.
