Under Alex McLeish, Williams was named to the bench several times, in matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Williams was part of the Villa youth team that won the Next Gen Series, making 2 appearances in the tournament, including the Round of 16 win over Ajax. He was also part of the team that made the Next Gen quarterfinals in 2011-12.

Williams has eight caps for the Republic of Ireland U-19 team, the first coming in February 2011. He played in 3 matches at the 2011 UEFA U-19 Championships, helping Ireland make the semifinals. He moved up to the U-21 squad in September 2012.
