Recap: Tottenham Beats Villa 2-0

Aston Villa looked flat in their 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Goals by Steven Caulker and Aaron Lennon were the difference in the match.

Joe Bennett Injures Knee, Stretchered Off

Joe Bennett was taken off on a stretcher after seemingly injuring his knee in the 76th minute of Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur. The extent of the injury is not yet known.

Steven Caulker was on the lucky end of a Jermaine Defoe shot. The ball really ought to have been Defoe's goal, but it glanced off Caulker's heel. Either way, the score stands at Tottenham 1-0 Aston Villa after the 56th minute strike.

A few minutes later, Aaron Lennon sent a ball through the Aston Villa defense and into the side of the net to make it Tottenham 2-0 Aston Villa.

Aston Villa haven't looked to seriously threaten at all in the match, and one hopes they can pick up the pressure. Darren Bent and Charles N'Zogbia are now on, but things look pretty dire. It'll be a severely uphill battle to claw back into the match.

It's worth noting that Christian Benteke missed two pretty easy chances earlier in the match. Expect a massive uproar over the benching of Darren Bent to start the match again.

Spurs - Villa: Lineups

I'm not sure what to think about Paul Lambert using the same lineup against Spurs as he trotted out against West Bromwich Albion last week. On one hand, I understand him wanting to settle into something steady -- despite what he's said about constantly changing the starters -- but on the other, geez, Fabian Delph again?

But people keep telling me there's something about Delph I'm missing, so, ok. He was just fine at the beginning of the match last time 'round, so let's hope he can just keep adding minutes to his "I'm a decent player" time.

Thoughts on Bent staying on the bench?
